In 1974 the first professional stage play to feature the Doctor was shown. Written by Terrance Dicks Doctor Who and the Daleks in The Seven Keys to Doomsday starred Trevor Martin as the Doctor with Wendy Padbury and James Matthews playing his companions Jenny and James.
The play began with Jon Pertwee’s face changing into that of actor Trevor Martin and then had Martin emerge in the third Doctor’s costume just after regenerating, with two audience members coming to his aid who would serve as his companions for the story.
The story featured the Doctor and his companions fighting the Daleks who were seaching for seven crystals which would enable them to control all life in the universe.
