Argentina were very lucky to get the three points that pretty much sees them in the round of 16 as for ninety minutes Iran kept them at bay, and could easily have won the tie as they had some great chances, which they just didn’t take. In the ninety first minute there was a bit of magic from Messi and all Iran’s hard work proved to be for nothing. You really had to feel for Iran as they had done so well but as with England there was one player that was the difference between the two teams and it was a fabulous goal that Messi scored. It still doesn’t make it any easier for Iran to take though after they pretty much stopped Argentina in their tracks.
Germany and Ghana finished a thrilling game with a point each and a fully deserved point as neither team either deserved to win or to lose the match, it was that closely contested. Ghana took the lead but Germany equalised not long after. Then Ghana took the lead and then Germany woke up, started trying to win the game, bought on their talismanic striker Mirsolav Klose who only went and equalised the his first kick of the game! A draw did seem the fairest result for this game with each team playing very well indeed. It is however much better for Germany than for Ghana, but Ghana aren’t quite finished yet.
A first half goal from Peter Odemwingie was enough to send Bosnia-Herzegovina crashing out of their very first World Cup as Nigeria beat them 1-0. However they do have a reason to be sore as not long before that Edin Dzeko had goal disallowed for offside, which was clearly not offside to everybody but the match officials. Sadly this happens in football and Bosnia-Herzegovina fell afoul of it.
