So England beat Tunisia 2-1 in their first game of the tournament which was a good start for the three lions.

So how does this compare to the other appearances in the world cup.

England’s very first world cup match on 25 June 1950 saw England beat Chile 2-0 with goals from Mortensen and Mannion 6 minute either side of the half time whistle.

In 1954 England drew 4-4 with Belgium with two goals apiece from Broadis and Lofthouse.

In 1958 England drew 2-2 with the Soviet Union with goals from Kevan and Finney.
In 1962 Engand lost 2-1 to Hungary.

In 1966 England drew 0-0 with Uruguay.

In 1970 England beat Romania 1-0 with a goal from Geoff Hurst.

In 1982 England beat France 3-1 with two goals from Bryan Robson and one by Paul Mariner.

In 1986 England lost 1-0 to Portugal.

In 1990 England drew 1-1 with Jack Charlton’s Republic of Ireland with goal coming from Gary Lineker.

In 1998 England beat Tunisia 2-0 with goals from Alan Shearer and Paul Scholes.

In 2002 England drew 1-1 with Sweden with a goal from Sol Campbell.

In 2006 England beat Parguay 1-0 from an own goal.

In 2010 England drew 1-1 with the United States with a goal from Steven Gerrard.

In 2014 England lost 3-1 to Italy Daniel Sturridge getting the only goal

So we have done much better in the first game than we did in 2014, 2010, 2002, 1990, 1986, 1966, 1962, 1958 and 1954.

We managed to copy what we did in 1998 but did not manage to end with game with a clean sheet but did not manage to have the great start that we had in 1982 which remains our best start in the tournament so far.
