2013: Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, Man of Steel, World War Z, Oz the Great and Powerful, Star Trek Into Darkness, Gravity, Despicable Me 2; New Order released Lost Sirens, Adam Ant release Adam Ant is the Blueback Gussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter, Depeche Mode release Delta Machine; Denmark won the Eurovision Song Contest with Only Teardrops by Emmelie de Forest; Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City 1-0 to lift the FA Cup.
There has been lots of merchandise release in this the fiftieth anniversary of the show.
One of these is a series of the ‘keep calm’ post cards related to Doctor Who including Keep Calm I’m the Doctor, Keep Calm and Call the Doctor, Keep Calm Have a Jelly Baby, Keep Calm Don’t Regenerate, Keep Calm and Don’t Blink and Keep Calm and Obey
Not the most interesting of items but a genuine piece of merchandise nonetheless!
2012: The Avengers, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hunger Games, Men in Black 3 were released in cinemas; The Darkness release Hot Cakes, Graham Coxon release A+E, Iron Maiden release En Vivo!, Bruce Springsteen released Wrecking Ball; Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest with Euphoria by Loreen; Chelsea beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final
One for the female Doctor Who fans this year. This is a dress that was made in Australia and is, as you can see, a dress that looks like the exterior of the TARDIS.
Cue jokes about it being bigger on the inside.
2011: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Hangover Part II were released in cinemas; Adele released 21, Coldplay release Mylo Xyloto, R.E.M. release Collapse into Now, The Human League release Credo, Moby release Destroyed, Florence and the Machine release Ceremonials; Azerbaijan win the Eurovision Contest with Running Scared by Ell & Nikki; Manchester City beat Stoke City to lift the FA Cup.
There was far too much merchandise to choose from released this year. Out of everything I think that I will highlight on a range of t-shirts based on the various different outfits worn by the Doctor’s.
Now you can look trendy and ironic in a t-shirt that looks a little bit like what first or second Doctor wears, rather than just throw together a costume as me and my mates did back in the early nineties
I like them, it just isn’t the same as making your own costume, but a lot more acceptable in public
2010: Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Shrek Forever After, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Summit, Iron Man 2, Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon were released in cinemas; Florence + The Machine released Lungs, Ellie Goulding released Lights, Plan B released The Defamation of Strickland Banks, Iron Maiden released The Final Frontier
This year also saw the publication of selected articles from the rather good Doctor Who fanzine Shooty Dog Thing, which was an internet based fanzine that could also be printed out to look like an old fashioned 1990’s fanzine.
The book picked some of the best articles published in the zine and is an entertaining read.
I would highly recommend this book.
